The first incarnation of Scribner’s Magazine was launched in 1887 and flourished until 1939, introducing new writers and publishing in short form many of the authors who wrote books for Scribner: Henry James, Edith Wharton, Theodore Roosevelt, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Alan Paton, and Thomas Wolfe. Scribner has always stood for quality and in our long history we have published fresh voices across all categories: award-winning literary fiction, nonfiction that introduces transformative ideas, memoirs embraced by millions of readers, thrillers, essays, humor, poetry, and the gold standard of cookbooks.
